About Mike Johnson Tree Care
Mike was born and bred in villages around Market Harborough and raised in a farming family. Being passionate about the great outdoors, he trained as a tree surgeon at Moulton College in 2010, first gaining NPTC City and Guilds qualifications and later LANTRA and IPAF certifications.
Before forming his own company, Mike worked as a groundsman and climber for other local tree surgeons. His aim is to combine the best elements of all he has seen in other tree firms.
All of our staff are experienced, qualified professionals. We are fully insured up to £5,000,000 for our customers’ peace of mind. Our work is of the highest quality and we take great care to work closely with our customers to provide a personal and efficient service.
We care deeply about doing the best job possible and this is very much reflected in the quality of our work and the way in which we deal with our clients.

What tree care services do you provide?
We provide tree pruning, crown reductions, tree removal, stump grinding, hedge trimming and garden clearance. Whether you have one troublesome branch or a completely overgrown garden, we will assess what is needed and recommend a practical solution.
Which areas do you cover?

Are you qualified and insured?
Yes. Mike and his team are experienced, qualified tree care professionals, with NPTC City & Guilds, LANTRA and IPAF certifications. We are fully insured up to £5 million and complete tree work in accordance with BS3998, the British Standard for Tree Work.
Does my tree need pruning or removing?
Removal is not always necessary. Crown reduction, crown lifting or selective pruning can often make a tree safer, improve its shape, let more light into the garden or prevent branches from interfering with buildings and cables. We can inspect the tree and advise on the most suitable approach.
Can you work on a protected tree?
Some trees are protected by a Tree Preservation Order or are located within a conservation area, which may mean permission is required before work can begin. If you are unsure about your tree, speak to us before arranging the work and we can help you identify the next step.
What happens to the branches and garden waste?
We take great care to leave the working area clean and tidy when the job is complete. We remove branches, leaves, hedge cuttings and other green waste, all of wich are chipped onto the back of a truck. Chippings are tipped off at official gren waste disposal sites. We do not remove general rubbish, rubble, metal, plastic or treated timber.
What is stump grinding, and will it remove all the roots?
Stump grinding uses specialist machinery to reduce the visible stump to below ground level. For larger stumps, it is quicker and less disruptive than digging out the entire stump and root ball. The underground roots remain in place and gradually decay naturally.
For smaller stumps, we can dig these and the roots out, manually.
